Ida is a young Polish novitiate intent on taking her vows, but the Mother Superior insists she first meet her only living relative. Ida finds her aunt, a former hard-line Communist Party judge now drowning her disillusionment in booze and sex, who promptly informs Ida that she is Jewish.
