Raised a Christian Scientist, Taylor’s conversion ceremony was held on March 27, 1959: ⁠
⁠
“I, Mrs. Michael Todd, née Elizabeth Taylor, do herewith declare in the presence of God and the witnesses assembled that I, of my own free will, seek the fellowship of the people of Israel and that I fully accept the religion of Israel.”⁠

She studied for nine months under Rabbi Max Nussbaum of Hollywood’s Temple Israel. ⁠
⁠
While two of her husbands, Mike Todd and Eddie Fisher, were Jewish, the Hollywood star was adamant that she didn’t convert for them. Taylor is quoted in David Hermann’s book, “Liz,” as saying there was “comfort and dignity and hope for me in this ancient religion that [has] survived for four thousand years... I feel as if I have been a Jew all my life."⁠
